Saving the Earth One Soy Candle at a Time

Since the 1970s, the world has celebrated Earth Day every 22nd of April. on April 22. This day signifies a movement created to urge people to make better choices for the environment and humanity’s future.

For some, going off the grid island using candles is the most feasible choice to help the planet. However, candles aren’t as innocent as you think.

Most candles are made using paraffin wax. Paraffin is derived from petroleum, a type of fossil fuel. The problem with fossil fuel is that it is not readily available. You need enormous machines to drill the earth or the seabed, thereby destroying natural habitats and in some cases, contaminating food and water supply.

So how can you help the planet?

Ditch the traditional candles and choose ones made from soy wax such as Micandle scented candles. Soy wax, as the name implies, is derived from soybeans. Soybean is rolled into flakes to extract oil which is then hydrogenated. Hydrogenation turns unsaturated fat into saturated fats which is solid at room temperature.

Why choose soy wax candles?

Renewable and sustainable

Soy wax comes from a renewable source. Soybeans are easy to grow in warm climates and you can harvest beans in just 80 days. They can be planted in pots or planter boxes, so you can have tons of soybeans in just 80 days.

Good for the earth and the health

The luscious soybean plants are not only relaxing to look at, they help produce more oxygen and reduce carbon dioxide in the air. No drilling of the earth is needed.

Soy-based candles like Micandle do not release toxins in the air. You also don’t have to worry about soot going to your furniture or ceiling.

Relaxing

Soy wax is softer than paraffin wax and also has a lower melting point. The lower melting point of soy wax gives it a better scent throw. The low fire warms the wax instead of just consuming it, so it releases the scent faster.

On top of that, the wooden wick crackles when lighted. It gives off the reminiscent sound of firewood crackling that keeps you cozy on a cool night at the beach or a cold winter day.

So what are you waiting for? This Earth Day, switch to a jar of Micandle and help reduce the negative impact we have on the earth.
